The photogram as a choreographic snapshot

The photogram is the smallest unit of shooting, one of the basic images which the video is (1/25th of a second to 1/60th of a second). Through it and a search on the dancing body, the body takes a look that usually slips to the perception. This last is called into question by the digital methods of the image. The freeze frame is a fragmentation of the videodance time. It makes the image-movement full thickness, to observe and to upgrade experience Visual, detached from the time that passes. It is thus renew the practice of video with that of the fixed image.

In a suspended time that seems to await the return of the dance movement, the photogram 'seized' a tiny moment of the digital choreography. In an archaeology of the eye the image thus constitutes a memory tank for digital choreography, an index for the activation of the memory and the memory of the dancing body. I spoke then of choreographic snapshots.

In its form, the video comes in contact with the field of photography. While both of these practices are often distinct and non-interchangeable - the video is movement / photography is stop - the photogram enters a new and enlarged border area. The video freezes, the photo in its infinitesimal character appears to be animated: the movement of dance and at the same the dancing body that is there is captured and sublimated.

The dancing body strives to stop, leaving only the allusion, sometimes even the trace of his movement.                                                          ML
